According to some media, on 15 of January, the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced a deal with Albania and the United Arab Emirates to build an underwater power cable across the Adriatic, connecting Tirana and Rome.

The Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, added that the agreement outlines plans for a projected investment of around €1 billion, and the new infrastructure is expected to be operational within three years.

Comments: This is an important project that will increase renewable energy supplies to Italy and help prepare for the new EU renewable energy regulations. Albania has surplus power thanks to the hydropower plants.

It is clear that Italy has taken over the development of Albania and as the EU gives money for the development of Albania’s renewable energy, it is quite natural that a large part of the electricity produced will go back to the EU. In this case, in Italy.
