According to different Serbian media, including Instagram, President Aleksandar Vučić announced that he had a “meaningful” conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 7 of March 2025 on all important issues related to bilateral cooperation, including US sanctions against the Serbian oil company NIS and the achievement of a gas agreement before May 31.

“I have just finished the conversation with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, we had a good, meaningful and I would dare to say excellent conversation on all important bilateral issues of our cooperation,” Vučić said in a video statement posted on his official Instagram account after a phone call with Putin.

He pointed out that they also talked about the political cooperation between the two countries, as well as the need for the intergovernmental commissions to continue working to improve trade and economic cooperation.

“We also talked about how and in what way to conclude a gas agreement before May 31, but also how and in what way to resolve the issue of NIS, bearing in mind the US sanctions that have been imposed on this company,” Vučić said. Russia and Serbia have a three-year contract for the supply of blue fuel, which expires this year.

Vučić added that they also talked with Putin about all important political issues, including “the attempt for a colour revolution in Serbia.”
“I thanked him that Russian officials do not support the colour revolution. President Putin had a very clear, precise position on this issue. Russia understands well, sees well what is happening and will continue to support the legitimately elected authorities in Serbia,” Vučić said.
The two heads of state also discussed the situation in the region and the world, including what is happening in Republika Srpska – the Bosnian semi-autonomous part, populated mainly by Bosnian Serbs.
The Serbian president also confirmed his visit at the head of a Serbian delegation on May 9 to Moscow on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany during the Second World War.

Comments: We are witnessing another 180-degree turn of the Serbian president after the solid curtsies made to the Western partners in recent months. Obviously, issues of concern to Serbia and Russia have been discussed, but two of them are of particular importance at the moment: – guarantees for Russia’s non-participation in the organization and financing of the student protests with Serbia and the participation of President Vučić in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany on the rostrum of Red Square in Moscow.
