According to the press office of NATO, on 17th of September the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama visited the NATO Headquarters in Brussels. He has been received by the NATO Secretary General Marc Rute.

After the meeting the Secretary General commented the role of Albania as follow:

First of all, Marc Rute called Edi Rama his close friend – a very special honour for the Prime Minister of Albania.

Rute evaluated Albania as a staunch Ally and underlined that Albania will reach the 2% defence spending, this year, which is a great commitment.

“Albania is developing its defence industrial base, including through its state-owned enterprise, which is important because we need a strong defence industrial base all over NATO”, said Marc Rute.

The Secretary General also thanked Albania for helping a lot with Ukraine through NATO Command in Wiesbaden, where there is an Albanian delegation, but also through language training for fighter pilots and for technicians.

Albania is also participating in NATO Forward Land Forces in Latvia and Bulgaria, as well as Albania is active in Kosovo, through KFOR.

“And therefore, I really want to thank you for being such a staunch Ally. We know that NATO can count on Albania. You know that Albania can always count on NATO” concluded Mark Rute.

Comments: The Protocol part of the visit is clear. Unfortunately, we have not more information about real results of the meeting, but it is clear that Albanian Prime Minister, should have taken a lot of serious engagements.
