Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić suddenly felt unwell during a visit to the United States and, after receiving medical care, urgently returned to Serbia. In Washington, he was accompanied by Finance Minister Sinisa Mali, who said that Vučić felt unwell while preparing for a meeting with Donald Trump.
In the US, Aleksandar Vučić was supposed to meet with the main lobbyists of Serbian interests – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, Rod Blagojevich, major Serbian businessmen and representatives of the diaspora. In addition, the Serbian president had previously announced that he would talk to Donald Trump “soon”.
According to sources, some of the meetings did take place. Then the president’s blood pressure rose and after emergency medical care he was forced to urgently return to Serbia.
After arriving in Belgrade, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić was examined by doctors at the Military Medical Academy, in the presence of the country’s Minister of Health Zlatibor Lončar.
Brigadier General Dr. Dragan Dinčić, head of the Military Health Directorate, said that Aleksandar Vučić’s health condition is stable and satisfactory, but it is unrealistic to expect him to return to his planned activities in the next few days.
Vučić arrived at the Military Medical Academy today at around 13:00 local time and was discharged from the hospital at 17:00.
“I have been involved in monitoring the health of the President of Serbia for many years,” said Dr. Dragan Dinčić, a cardiologist. Over the past 10 years, he has had similar problems three times, against the background of high blood pressure. During his stay in America, he felt a pain in his chest, strong but short-lived. He received additional therapy, quite intensive… The president, contrary to the suggestion of American doctors, decided to return to the country by plane.
Comment: The main question that is now being asked is, will the sharp deterioration of Aleksandar Vučić’s health and the interruption of his visit to the US affect the Serbian leader’s plans to visit Moscow?
Obviously, Aleksandar Vučić will not be at the Victory Parade in Moscow after all…
A representative part of the Serbian army has already canceled at the last minute participation in the solemn events in Moscow.
The situation looks like a geopolitical deal – the cancellation of the meeting with Trump is in exchange for the cancellation of the visit on May 9 and the meeting with Putin, at which Aleksandar Vučić was supposed to negotiate an extension of the gas contract with Gazprom at low prices.
The deal does not seem at all equal, especially since it puts Aleksandar Vučić in the unfavorable optics of retreating in the face of EU pressure not to go to Moscow. EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Koss was in Belgrade just a few days ago.
