On May 30, the government of the Republika Srpska (RS) appointed a Working Group to draft an agreement on the “peaceful disassociation” of RS from the other entity in the Federation Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Working Group was appointed a week after Milorad Dodik announced its plan for a peaceful separation.

“The task of the Working Group is to draft a proposal for the agreement on the peaceful disassociation of RS from the FBiH, containing an analytical part about endangering Dayton Peace Agreement, which will be proposed by the Government of RS to the National Assembly of RS” the RS government stated.

The statement added that the Working includes Minister of Justice Milan Bukejlović, Minister of Internal Affairs Siniša Karan, RS Entity Attorney Milimir Govedarica, Director of the Republic Administration for Geodetic and Property-Legal Affairs Dragan Stanković, Director of the RS Tax Administration Goran Maričić and some other representatives of the Office of the President of RS and legal experts.

Comments: Despite the stated formal occasion for the appointment of this working group is the adoption of Resolution on Srebrenica by the UN, the idea of Republika Srpska’s separation from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is not new for Milorad Dodik and has been repeatedly presented by him, especially in recent years. It should be noted that due to precisely anti-Dayton and unconstitutional activities and secessionist announcements, Dodik is on the list of US and UK sanctions.

Delegation of the European Union in Sarajevo also stated recently that there is no legal, factual or rational basis for calls for a “peaceful disassociation” of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that is committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, constitutional order and international personality of the Federation as well as the safe and secure environment.
