The election campaign of the Democratic Party of Albania is headed by Chris LaCivita, considered the main architect of Trump’s election victory.
LaCivita called Edi Rama a “puppet of Soros” and predicted his defeat in the upcoming elections on May 11. He pointed out that it is impossible for a “puppet of Soros” to be a friend of the United States, which means that Berisha’s candidacy is supported by Trump.

In June 2023, Alexander Soros officially inherited the empire of his father – George Soros. The financial resources of the Soros empire focus on Eastern Europe, with a significant part directed to the Western Balkans. The regional office (The Open Society Foundations – Western Balkans (OSF-WB)) is in Tirana, and the structure has branches in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia.
In 2011 Jonas Rolet, the head of the Open Society Fund’s regional directorate for Central and Southeastern Europe, suggested to Hillary Clinton’s advisor Richard Verma (then Assistant Secretary of State for Legal Affairs and until recently Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources) that the then young and promising opposition leader Edi Rama be assisted in resolving the political crisis in Albania. Jonas Rolet lived in Albania in the 1990s and is a former senior official at the US National Democratic Institute. With the help of the Open Society Fund, Edi Rama came to power in Tirana, and the Fund’s experts developed two key priorities of the new government: constitutional reform and reform of the judiciary in Albania.
It is known that George Soros supports the Democratic Party in the USA and participates in determining its agenda. The new US administration is critical of the Soros family and the private Open Society Foundations, but Soros’s offices in the Western Balkans in February unanimously denied receiving funding from the state-owned USAID. Albanian opposition leader Sali Berisha, who described Trump’s victory as a “miracle for humanity,” intends to appeal to the new US administration to reconsider the decision to declare him persona non grata. In 2021, the former Albanian president was accused by the State Department of corruption schemes that “undermine democracy” in the country. Berisha was expelled from the Albanian Democratic Party, but in 2024 he again headed it. However, since September 2024, the Albanian Special Prosecutor’s Office has been prosecuting Berisha for corruption. The opposition politician claims, for his part, that much greater harm to the country has been caused by the corrupt rule of Edi Rama and his loyalty to George Soros.
The Soros structure has become deeply embedded in the Albanian political system and has become an element of political governance. Trump and Meloni are already waging a battle against Soros’ political influence. Will Berisha succeed in limiting this influence in Albania with the help of the new American administration? This will be difficult, given Meloni’s patronage of Rama.
