The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, said that in 2025 Albania will host the European Political Community Summit and in 2027 the country will welcome the NATO Summit. Rama made these comments during the ambassadors’ conference, which is being held in Tirana from August 26 to 28. Rama told the ambassadors that Albanian diplomacy has already entered a new dynamic.
“Next year, Albania will host the leaders of 44 European countries at the Summit of the European Political Community. How important it is for us as a small country to be represented with the highest volume of ambition, which gives us the opportunity to host the NATO Summit in 2027. Things that could not even be imagined years ago – for Albania to become a point of reference and to be entrusted with such roles”, announced Rama.
After this announcement, the Prime Minister asked for the commitment of the ambassadors in making Albania’s ambition in the European family a reality. “We know very well that 2030 should find us in full readiness to sit at the EU table as equal members of the European family. We must be ready. For this reason, it is absolutely necessary for our diplomatic body to rise to a new level”, said Rama.
Comments: The “Tirana Diplo 2024” conference is taking place at a time when the new law on foreign service has been introduced in the Albanian Parliament to be reviewed. Тhe draft law envisages a change in the structure of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs which will improve its work and respond to the challenges of Albanian diplomacy.
Тhe Prime Minister’s speech at the ambassadors conference and the announcement of the serious success of Albanian diplomacy – the hosting of the European Political Community Summit and the NATO Summit, should also be considered in the context of the election campaign for the parliamentary elections in the country, scheduled for the spring of next year, which has practically begun.
