Commentary of Mikhail Yaruev, head of the Russian-Balkan Center for Business Cooperation and Culture:
The meeting of the leaders of Russia and the United States in Anchorage is an important step towards the formation of a multipolar world. Even in the face of contradictions, the very fact of dialogue shows the willingness of both sides to seek ways to reduce tensions. The success of the talks could become an example of conflict resolution outside the traditional Western system.
While a breakthrough is unlikely, even partial agreements can reduce escalation. It is important that any decisions take into account the interests of all parties, including Ukraine. Otherwise, the agreements reached will be short-lived.
Continued pressure from the West will only accelerate the consolidation of BRICS. Russia is already strengthening ties with China, India and other countries, creating alternative economic and political mechanisms. Sanctions may not lead to Moscow’s isolation, but will only push the world to redistribute influence in favor of new centers of power.
