This week, the President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik has presented the Agreement on Regulating Relations Between the Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Accordance with the Dayton Agreement and International Acts, as well as Information on the Necessity of Separation. However, the discussion on the document on the “disassociation” of the entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina was withdrawn from the agenda of the Assembly of the Republic of Srpska on July 9.
On May 30, the government of the Republika Srpska appointed a Working Group to draft an agreement on the “peaceful disassociation” of RS from the other entity in the Federation Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The “Agreement” itself consists of 15 articles and is less than four pages long, while the “Information” fits into 45 pages.
The documents announced by President of the Republika Srpska Dodik are to be approved by the National Assembly of RS and then, as stated, presented to the FBiH (Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the other component of BiH) authorities.
Comment: Despite warnings from the international community, President of the Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik has started implementing his threats of “peaceful separation” from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
According to foreign diplomats, the approach of Banja Luka is as these documents are to be submitted not for approval or consideration, but merely for signing, as if the Federation already agrees with the “Agreement.”
The situation in the Western Balkans, especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), is heating up, said the diplomats.
