A meeting of the Serbian Security Services Coordination Bureau on May 16, chaired by National Security Council Secretary Ivica Dačić, concluded that the security situation in the country is stable, despite constant internal and external provocations, pressure and numerous challenges. The Security Services Coordination Bureau was established under the National Security Council to coordinate the work of security services in Serbia.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, the session discussed the current security situation in the country and the region, as well as the development of foreign political events and their impact on the situation in Serbia, and emphasized that the security of Serbian citizens and the preservation of peace and stability in the country are priority tasks of the security sector.

It was stated that the security sector, as well as all state bodies of Serbia, in accordance with their competences and powers, will take all measures and actions aimed at maintaining stable public order and peace, the smooth functioning of state institutions and public institutions and the protection of the constitutional order and territorial integrity of Serbia, as well as the security and normal functioning of everyday life and work of all citizens.

The meeting was also attended by the Director of the Security-Information Agency Vladimir Orlić, the Director of Military Counterintelligence Đuro Jovanić, the director of the Military Intelligence Agency Vladimir Planic. The Director of the Police of the Republic of Serbia Dragan Vasiljević also participated in the work.

Comment: Indeed, the mass protest movement in Serbia has subsided, but a new strategy is being prepared: from May 17 to June 6, students will successively block Subotica, Čačak, Zaječar, Šabac, Lazarevci and Požarevac. The series of protests already began in Serbia on Saturday.

According to the calculations of the backstage leaders, the blockade of a large number of municipalities in the country will force President Aleksandar Vučić to announce early elections. The logic behind this new strategy is that the security structures will have difficulty in effectively physically controlling the situation in several municipalities at the same time. It is also expected that in remote corners of the country, unlike the capital, tent camps for “those who want to study” will not be deployed, since prolonged actions will drain the resources of the local police. This type of blockade is expected to trigger the protest potential of local residents.
