The Foundation „Euro-Atlantic Horizons for the Western Balkans“ (EHWB) was founded in 2024 as a non-profit and nongovernmental association of citizens, within the meaning of the Bulgarian Non-Profit Legal Entities Act.
The EHWB is a think-tank specialised in internal and foreign policy, security and defence issues in the Western Balkan countries. We aim to be the regional knowledge hub of first choice for the political situation and foreign policy and trends in the six countries of the region. The EHWB is grounded in the values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights. It adheres to values that are common to a society in which pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity and equality prevail.
Our VISION is to promote the sustainable development and the Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkan countries.
Our MISSION is:
To strengthen and support the strategic thinking in NATO and EU on the political developments and security in the region in line with the Euro-Atlantic integration;
To contribute to enhance the role of the EU members from the broader Balkan region by developing forward-looking and innovative policy ideas and strategic solutions for the common European and Transatlantic security and defence agenda;
The EHWB brings extensive expertise to all people, organizations and institutions, mainly through sharing the accumulated knowledge from the Western Balkan region;
The EAHWB strives to give access to accurate and relevant information and creates opportunities for the people and experts to participate in democratic processes and enables civil society organisations and citizens to influence decision-makers.
Our MAIN GOALS are:
To create a platform for information, analysis and discussions about the present and future development of the countries and peoples of the Western Balkans.
This platform should allow:
– Providing the interested users of reliable, politically neutral and up-to-date daily information, based on open sources, about the political, economic, social and integration processes in the states of the WB. Each piece of information will be accompanied by a commentary of our experts, based on their many years of experience in the matter;
– Weekly analyzes of events and facts related to the development of the situation and the processes in the WB countries, their European and Euro-Atlantic integration, the influence on these processes of factors outside the region;
– Conducting discussions with the participation of leading political scientists, politicians, economists and other experts on the problems and challenges facing the WB countries, including hybrid threats, and the ways to solve them.
– To contribute at the non-governmental level to strengthening peace and stability in the Central and Eastern European region by creating opportunities for mutual awareness, dialogue and a positive approach to the current and future challenges facing the countries of the region.
– To assist and support the process of EU enlargement to the countries of the WB by identifying the procedures, objectively reflecting the progress of the candidate countries in fulfilling the conditions for integration into the EU, as well as giving greater visibility to the positions of the individual countries of the WB.
WHO WE ARE:
We are a small team of experienced former diplomats, as well as young people who are very motivated, dynamic and whit excellent positive ideas.
